There are tonnes of living room design ideas peppered all over the internet. So, what’s different about these?
These home decorating ideas are meant to be easy to adopt and we promise to not overwhelm you with these suggestions.
What we really wanted to do was to give you some decorating ideas that will show off your personality.
Let’s get started.
Showcase a Collection

For as long as I can remember, there have been at least one or two professional photographers in our extended family.
So it’s no surprise that photography has been a hobby of mine for almost forever. I love everything about it.
I’ve been meaning to start a collection of old cameras that I’d like to create a display with.
It doesn’t have to be something that requires a lot of time either. Let’s say you love solving jigsaw puzzles.
Maybe that’s a favourite family pastime. Imagine creating a feature wall of puzzle pieces.
The idea here is to create a collection for display of something that you love and enjoy. It doesn’t have to be a wall display.
For example, you could showcase a collection of cameras on a bookshelf or put the puzzle pieces in glass jars to display on a table top.
Invest in Art that You Love!
Okay, so I say invest but that doesn’t always have to be about money. You could invest time into creating a masterpiece of your own.
Have you ever stared at a piece of abstract art somewhere and mouthed off “I can do that!”. Well then, do it!
Create yourself an oversized piece of art and not only will you have something you can show off in your home but you’ll have a story you can share with your guests too.
If you have money to invest, great! Choose pieces of artwork that you love.

Add Something That is Uniquely You

A few years ago, I wanted a large oversized mirror for my dining room. It was a part of a long space that contained the living room and the kitchen with floor to ceiling windows on one end of the room.
That meant the middle of the room was easily dark for most parts of the day and I wanted a mirror that would allow light to bounce off into the middle of my space.
I looked for a mirror for what seemed like forever and couldn’t find something that had the size I was looking for and would fit the budget I had.
You see, I wanted an oversized floor to ceiling kind of mirror that had an antique finish to it. I wanted something very specific.
Eventually, after doing some research online, I decided I was going to make myself this mirror. There’s a long story behind how this wall feature came to be and I probably won’t do this again but I love the end result.
Whatever you choose to do, it does not have to be elaborate but it should inject your personality into your space with something that is uniquely you. Something that none of your family, friends or neighbours will have in their respective spaces.
Create an Accent Wall

When it comes to living room decorating ideas, we are BIG on accent walls. Accent walls give you a place to focus in a room. It could be a fireplace, a TV, a built-in shelf system or as simple as a slat wall.
You could use wood or faux panelling, wall paper or even just paint to create a feature wall.
We’ll be writing a post to get you inspired on accent walls shortly and we’ll link it here once it’s available.
Change Up Your Switch Plates
This next idea is a simple one but something that we often don’t think of. Did you know you can buy switch plates that are simply gorgeous?
I’m not talking just changing it from basic white plastic to black but there’s a whole host of products out there that can truly elevate your switch plate game.
However, as much as I love all the options that are available out there, I personally prefer my switch plates to blend into the wall.
I really don’t want to call attention to them. You can spray paint them to the same colour as your wall or simply cover it with the same wallpaper.
There you go! Those are our 5 easy living room decorating ideas to customise your space to reflect you and your personality. The best part is that you can combine many of these ideas together into one feature that reflects you.
