For many years, I used to be a road warrior for work. That meant I was sleeping at a hotel 3 or 4 nights out of the week. Lucky for me, those were some really nice hotels to stay in and I won’t lie, I kinda got accustomed to that luxurious feel of a hotel room.
Now that I spend pretty much all of my time at home, thanks to my new line of work and party due to the pandemic, it was really important for me to create that same luxurious feeling of a hotel room, in my own bedroom.
Here are my tips on how you can get the look and feel of a chic hotel room, and create your own luxury bedroom.

Luxurious Bedding
Right bedding is everything for a great night’s sleep. So, what’s considered good bedding?
My advice is to choose something that feels soft and luxurious to touch. That could be sheets that are linen, high quality cotton percale or even silk. I love linen and percale because they become softer with each wash.
I also love my bed sheets to be crisp white, just like in a hotel.
Finally, styling your bed with a great duvet, duvet cover, blankets, shams and throw pillows all create a feast for my eyes and a cozy, calming, retreat for me to relax. Choose the highest quality items that you can afford because you spend a third of your life in bed.
For a truly luxurious feeling, I prefer a bedroom styled in monochromatic tones. That leads to my next point.

Monochromatic Colours Scheme
The colour scheme you choose for your bedroom will have a really big impact on how you feel in your room. For a bedroom, your goal is to create a place for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Monochromatic colour schemes can be a little tough to pull off. The trick is to use a lot of different tones and shades of the colour you choose and add texture and pattern to the mix to keep things interesting and make it feel warm.
I love creating bedrooms that have a monochromatic vibe with ivory or creamy white. I also love doing a bedroom in shades of blue.
Does that mean non-monochromatic bedrooms don’t have a hotel-chic feeling? Not at all. Keep your colour palette simple and choose colours that bring a touch of sophistication to the space to create that same high-end feeling without sticking to different shades of one colour.

Statement Headboard
I should say a statement headboard and a feature wall behind it. If you walk into a hotel room, 99% of the time your eyes will automatically go to the headboard. It may not be something that’s screaming at you.
Infact, it is likely something that is understated but elegant. It still commands your attention the moment you enter that room. That’s because the combination of the headboard and the wall behind it creates a feature in the room.
Tufted headboards have been all the rage for a few years now and we, at Daakor, are always turning to wallpaper to create an interesting feature wall. This might be the easiest formula if you’re looking to create a bit of that hotel glam in your bedroom.
Also, remember that styling your headboard is also important. I love the idea of hanging a pendant lamp or two on each side of the headboard, above the nightstand to frame a beautiful, modern headboard.
Ah, and that’s the perfect segue to the next tip.

Beautiful Lighting
Lighting plays an important role in the design and style of any room. In bedrooms, we want to use lighting to invoke a mood. The best way to do this is to utilize different layers of lighting.
This is actually quite easy in most bedrooms. Install a beautiful chandelier in the room to create ambient lighting. Accent with some lighting over the nightstands. If you can, suspend some pendant lights from the ceiling instead of using table lamps.
I find that most luxury hotel rooms have wall sconces. You could also utilize these instead of or in addition to table lamps.
If your room is big enough, bring in a floor lamp to create yet another layer of lighting. In the last few weeks, I’ve had several conversations with clients about the importance of making sure that your lighting works with each other rather than matching.
